Meet the cohort of newsrooms working to confront news avoidance

Eleven news organizations are joining a cohort assembled by Trusting News to understand and address news avoidance. Through the Confronting News Avoidance program, newsrooms will work to learn more about people’s perceptions of and relationship to the news and then develop strategies to respond.

Congratulations to these journalists and newsrooms!

Specifically, this group of journalists will spend five weeks in April and May working to:

  • Conduct a curiosity-driven conversation with someone who self-describes as a news avoider
  • Create an FAQ that addresses common questions and assumptions related to news avoidance as well as transparency around the news-gathering process.
  • Share this FAQ publicly, within daily content and on brand social media platforms. Trusting News will provide social templates newsrooms can adapt for their own brand.
