Meet the cohort of newsrooms working to understand audience’s perceptions of AI use in newsrooms

Trusting News, in collaboration with Online News Association, is excited to announce the cohort of newsrooms working to better understand audiences’ perceptions of AI use in journalism.

Over the summer, these newsrooms will work to survey and interview real news consumers in their communities to better understand what they think about journalists’ use of AI in the newsgathering process.

Congratulations and thank you to these participating newsrooms:

Trusting News’ work in AI

Helping newsrooms get transparent around AI will continue to be a priority for us at Trusting News this year.

Throughout different technological disruptions, we have seen journalists struggle to adapt. With AI, history could repeat itself. We are seeing some major news players engage with and think about the use of AI, while others are saying they will not use it at all, don’t have time to think about it, lack the tech skills to navigate it or are using it without any transparency or consistency.

At Trusting News, we want to make sure news organizations are thinking carefully, strategically and ethically about using AI while also using it to help them build trust.

At Trusting News, we learn how people decide what news to trust and turn that knowledge into actionable strategies for journalists. We train and empower journalists to take responsibility for demonstrating credibility and actively earning trust through transparency and engagement. Subscribe to our Trust Tips newsletter.
