Henry Luce Foundation makes two-year investment in Trusting News
The Henry Luce Foundation has built on previous support for Trusting News by committing $200,000 over two years to the organization. This brings the foundation’s total investment in our team’s work to $500,000.
The grant is for general operating support, and it comes as Trusting News marks 10 years of service. What began as a solo, part-time project of the Reynolds Journalism Institute in January 2016 has developed into an industry-leading program known for training, research and thought leadership.
This marks the first multi-year grant since Trusting News spun off as our own nonprofit in 2024. (RJI had made multi-year commitments while it was serving as a host organization for us, alongside the American Press Institute.)
“I’m immensely grateful to the Henry Luce Foundation for continuing to recognize the importance of what we do,” said Trusting News Executive Director Joy Mayer. “General operating support ensures we can work with journalists across platform, business model, and geography and bring our support to news providers who don’t have big training budgets behind them.”
While we also raise money for specific programmatic efforts, general operating funding like this allows us to coach journalists one on one, write our weekly newsletter, add to our Trust Kits, and take our training to conferences and other training environments.
The Luce Foundation has invested in our work since 2022. Sean Buffington, vice president of programs, said in an email: “There isn’t an organization out there doing more to help journalists and newsrooms rebuild trust with the communities they serve. We’re proud to be a partner to Trusting News as they work to ensure that Americans have access to fair, accurate, and relevant information.”
